The One New Humanity
You are to have put off, concerning the former way of life, the old man, which is being corrupted according to its desires of deceit, and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and to have put on the new man, having been created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth. Eph. 4:22-24
Who is this old man?
How do we “put him off” or transition out of him?
Who is this new man?
How do we put on or live out of that?
We are going to talk about all that today. The spiritual reality is that all of us in Christ are part of the One New Humanity, yet there is a working out of this reality in the physical realm. We are going to start with the transition from one humanity to the other.
The Great Transition
Problems – we all have them.
- Other Christians
- The Church
- Our own spiritual life or ourselves
- The World
- They drain us – spiritually, physically, emotionally
“[We] are missing the glory because [our] eyes are either turned inward or earthward: that is [our] problem.”
Two Things We Need
- A larger vision than our own personal problems
- To see our problems in a related way
In the Beginning…Creation God’s First Adam
Adam and Eve were created to be God’s Crowning Achievement of Creation, the vessels by which to express His Divine Life/the Life of Christ
They chose a different life–self (death), Counterfeit, Sin caused separation
Christ Became Human (Last Adam)
God getting what he always wanted through His Last Adam-Jesus
The Lord Jesus, the true son of God, the Last Adam, was conceived in the womb of his mother Mary by the Holy Spirit and was born complete with the DNA of the Father and the DNA of Humanity. Fully Human and Fully Divine.
For in Him all the fullness of Deity (the Godhead) dwells in bodily form [completely expressing the divine essence of God]. Col 2:9
For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him Col 1:9
Jesus, the last Adam, was humanity as God intended-constantly affirming, displaying, revealing the centrality and purpose of the Father through the flesh of Humanity.
He(Jesus) has revealed Him(the Father) and brought Him out where He can be seen (display); He has interpreted Him(making the Father Knowable) and he has made Him( the Father) known. John 1:18
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality God a treasure to be grasped and retained but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Phil 2:6-7
Jesus Christ Humanity is Perfected-Qualified
Jesus Christ perfected this humanity-Humanity as God intended through what he suffered while walking the earth and the work on the cross.
For it was fitting for Him(God), for whom are all things and through whom are all things, in leading many sons into glory, to make the Author of their salvation(Jesus) perfect(qualified) through suffering.
To Make Jesus perfect was to make Him perfect in terms of qualification- the completion of His experience of human sufferings was needed to make Him Fit to become the Author, the Leader and Source of this new humanity.
Man Born into Sin (Adam) Natural Man (earthy)
So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly. Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 1Co 15:45-50
Being Awakened to A New Life
Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him– a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all and in all. Col 3:9-11
How this New Humanity Operates- Divinity working through Humanity-Humanity operating from and by Divinity.
Dying to the Self Life-emptying of Self
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to cling to 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross. Phil 2:6-7
Let allow this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus: This New Humanity empties itself, taking the form of a servant, becoming obedient to death taking up our cross daily-denying our old humanity and Living by the Qualified Perfected Humanity of Jesus Christ.
All that Jesus accomplished was done as a human living by the divine Life of His Father.
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. John 5:19
So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. John 8:28
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; John 14:10
The great is the mystery of godliness(divine nature): He(the Father) who was revealed manifested in the flesh, 1 Tim 3:16
Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs which God did through Him in your midst Acts 2:22(Paul)
Battleground of the Two Humanities
It’s a Heart Issue. A hardened/closed heart vs a soft/open heart(poor in spirit)
The Natural Man vs. The Spiritual Man
Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called “Uncircumcised” by the so-called “Circumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands– remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. Eph 2:11-16
We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
Once again there are only two choices: You are either a slave to the world/the self or you are a slave to Christ. Romans 6:6
The Natural Man “Looks” Like Freedom vs. The Spiritual Man “Looks” (Falsely) Like Restriction/Bondage
